Mid-Summer 2026 Check-In: Signs Your Pool Deck Might Be Due For Renovation or Resurfacing Project This Fall

You walk on it every time you use your pool.
It’s one of the most important areas that is often overlooked.
In fact, you may hardly notice it — until issues start to appear.
Of course, I’m referring to your pool deck — the surrounding hardscape around the perimeter of your pool that functions as the connecting thread between your pool and the rest of your backyard area.
While it plays a functional role for you and your family, it’s also important for the overall aesthetic of your pool area.
That is, of course, if it’s in good condition and maintained properly.
With more use – like during our current pool season — it’s not uncommon to encounter some wear and tear, but there are some things to keep an eye out that may be signs of larger problems you’ll want to cover this fall.
Pool Deck Chipping Or Cracking
Chipping and cracking are likely the most common sources of pool deck issues.
These are not only hard on the eyes, but can also be potentially dangerous if those chips and cracks leave sharp edges exposed.
As folks tend to go barefoot around the pool, that could end up in some issues you may not want to run into during the fun outdoor season.
Pool Deck Has Loose Tile Or Pavers
Outside of cracking, it’s not uncommon for pavers or tiles to come loose from their bond with the rest of your pool deck.
While not as dangerous as exposed cracks or chips, that loose tile may get loose enough to work free – leaving your pool guests on shaky ground as they walk around your pool.
Pool Deck Not Level
On the topic of shaky ground – another source of pool deck issues are when they no longer retain their level or grade.
As the ground beneath your pool deck can shift, so too, can the pool deck surface along with it. This can leave your pool deck at a grade that is not conducive to moving excess water to important drainage locations, but also cause issues for your pool guests.
Your pool deck is a vital piece of your backyard pool area – with proper care and a little attention on the common issues above (and finding a reliable pool contractor to help you take care of them), it can last for many years to come here in the north Dallas area.
